Every Wednesday night @ 7pm we meet to get some Summer ECM time! It’s usually a Weekly Logos Bible Study, but we sometimes do a casual Eucharist or play games! Location: Calvary’s Undercroft.

February 21 – Wall-E

We will watch Wall-E…Not just a robot story.

February 28 – Wall-E: The Discussion

We will grapple with the eye-opening issues that are raised by this movie and relate them to our life in this world. How do we connect to this little robot and what is our human response to the barren conditions of life in the Wall-E age? Are we destined to destroy what has been given to us?

March 7 – The story of our Stuff

We will watch, “The Story of Stuff,” and unpack what is said. Our discussion will address questions like: Is God calling us to live more simply? Why do we consume so much when our needs are so few? We will critically examine our own consumption and even try to understand how we consume God.

March 14 – The Art of Reusing

Artist Amy Company will join us and lead us through an art project using stuff that we would normally throw away. How can we creatively turn waste into something beautiful? Our projects will then be used to decorate the Undercroft!

March 21 – Our holy Meal:

Holy grains. Holy fruits.

Jesus took bread, gave thanks, said the blessing and asked us to do this in remembrance of him. Jesus took wine, gave thanks, said a blessing, and asked us to drink in remembrance of him. Our bread and our wine have a living history. They have come to our table through many hands and have been passed to us for holy use. We will discover the path in which our bread and wine has taken to get to us. And we will ask how the grains and fruits that we consume impact our holiest of gatherings.

Hey Everybody!
ECM resumes its regular service schedule this Sunday at 5pm. Following our celebration of the Eucharist we will have a wonderful dinner together!

Also, our weekly bible study, The Weekly Logos, will resume on Wednesday at 7pm in the Undercroft! See you then!

This Sunday, October 11, George Wayne Smith, Tenth Bishop of Missouri, will Confirm Amanda Gilchrist and Amanda Stevenson-Grund during our regular worship time.

Dinner will be served and spirits will be high!

Be sure to make it to this festive event as we celebrate and confirm our belief in God and our community!

ECM @ the Alpine Tower tonight @ 5pm

ECM, This Sunday!

As I headed through town today I saw many students, some nervous, some look bored already, and some couldn’t hide their excitement. And I also saw a few parents driving away from town with that I-just-dropped-off-my-baby-at-college look. I even saw one mother wiping tears from her eyes.

What does this mean?

It’s time, folks! School’s in session and Episcopal Campus Ministry is on! I hope to see you Sunday evening at 5pm for our service and dinner. We have some exciting events coming up, so please check out the calendar!

Holly Jolly Advent Party this Sunday!!

Following the Sunday evening Episcopal Campus Ministry Holy Eucharist, we will be celebrating Advent with style! Come join us by bringing a gift worth no more than $10, a friend, and the advent spirit.

Lots of food, music, and a great gift exchange game following the worship service.

Why: A few reasons really: 1) because it’s the end of the year, 2) because Advent is the most overlooked season, 3) Celebrate Jan Neuman and Nicole Barkely’s Graduation, 4) and say goodbye to Elena!

Also this year bring a gift to give to a charity of our choosing…something like Toys for Tots.

October 17: Corn Maze

We will take the field in the dark and find our way through the corn as we take a journey through the maze! We will meet at church at 6pm and have dinner following. It’s a lot of fun!

November 1: rake ‘n run

This will be our one-day service opportunity this semester. We will meet at church at 10:30am to anonymously rake the yards of families that are unable to do so. We will wrap up with lunch and cider (or something fallish)

November 15: football party!

Come hang out with your fellow ECMers as we watch the mighty Mizzou Tigers take on the cyclones of Iowa State. Time and place TBA.

ECM Starts Sunday August 24!

The 2008-09 ECM schedule kicks off on Sunday, August 24 at the 5pm Sunday Evening Service at Calvary Episcopal Church. The night will offer a wonderful free meal and lots of fellowship.

A few days after our opening Service, we will have an Ice Cream social! Wednesday 27, at 5pm.

After the first week, our regular schedule will include the Sunday evening service at 5pm and The Weekly Logos, which is a one hour bible study at 7pm on Wednesday nights.

Graduation BBQ- Wed. @ 11:30-1

Come say goodbye to our seniors and graduates and each other as we head home for the summer with a little BBQ and ice cream! Meet on the side of Calvary at 11:30-1:00 this Wednesday. If you have many finals and things due, don’t worry, just stop bye for a quick meal!

Spring Camping Trip

April 12-13 we will meet up with ECM @ Washington University in St. Louis to brave the wild and experience the wilderness together! We will leave Columbia at Noon and head up to Mark Twain Lake for lots of fun, good campfire cooking, smores, chubby bunny(?), and lots of memories! Everyone is invited! And we have extra tents and sleeping bags if you are in need! We will return to Columbia by Noon on Sunday.

This event has been an absolute blast in the past, so I’m sure it will not disappoint. *We are not floating. **We will only be an hour away. ***if it is supposed to rain all weekend we will back out.

Grace is a shorthand way of speaking of the incredible love of God. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, understood grace as God’s mercy that comes to us, even though we do not deserve it. It is a free gift.

Like receiving an unexpected present from our grandparents on Christmas morning, we are often surprised by grace. When we are given such a gift, our natural response is to feel guilty since we do not have a gift to give in return. But like the Christmas gift, grace is given out of love and we are invited to receive it with no strings attached.
