The Rev. Joseph M.C. Chambers - Chaplain
EMAIL JOE

The Rev. Joe Chambers Hi, I'm Joe and I am the Chaplain for Episcopal Campus Ministry in Columbia, MO. That means that I am the priest for the community of people who are associated with The University of Missouri, Stephens College, and Columbia College

My wife Amy Cortright and I moved to Columbia from New York City in the Summer of 2006. We were married in June of 2005 in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at The General Theological Seminary where we met as students. She has lived her whole life in the Northeast, but has slowly gotten acquainted with the new sights and sounds of the Midwest (including the bugs). She is the Associate Rector at Calvary Episcopal Church. In late July of 2007, Day, our beautiful son, was born. He simply rocks our world and we love it! He is amazing and we love being parents. We also share the responsibilities of two cats, Miaham and Thea, but as she brought them to the marriage, ownership is not debatable.

I'm no stranger to Missouri as I've lived here most of my life. However, until recently, my familiarity with Columbia was the short section of Interstate 70 that passes through the city limits. In the short time I have lived here I have had nothing but good experiences with good people.

BIRTH DATE: November 15, 1978

EDUCATION: B.S. in Business from Saint Louis University; Masters of Divinity (M.Div) from The General Theological Seminary.

THINGS THAT HOLD MY INTEREST

  • PLACES: I LOVE "the city" and just as equally I LOVE "the outdoors". Any place that fits either description is a place for me. You cannot go wrong with New York City or London, and Maine and Washington State are two places I plan to visit often.
  • MUSIC: While it may be a little embarrassing, I am a Coldplay freak. In fact, the music in my car is likely to have one of these British accents: Keane, Aqualung, and Travis to name a few.
  • SPORT TEAMS: This could be a tricky one, but honesty is a good thing. My blood is red because of my dedication to the Cardinals. I'll root for the Rams and Blues, but I will not die-hard rooting for them. Other than baseball I prefer college sports, and I root hard for Mizzou and have to watch how loud and obnoxious I cheer when watching the Tigers. If I had only one sporting event to watch it would be a toss-up between 90 hours of Tour de France coverage and The Hawaii Ironman World Championship.
  • T.V : If I’m watching T.V. at night, I try to end my day with the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Other than that, the T.V. might make me seem old: 60 Minutes, 20/20, or even a newish favorite, Religion and Ethics Newsweekly.
  • MOVIES: I like deep stuff, but funny is easy and easy is good.
  • WEBSITES: Nytimes.com is my homepage. I like to search eBay for fun, and my computer screen sees triathlon websites more frequent than not.
  • HOBBIES: I love being active. I like rock climbing, mountaineering, skiing, hiking, tennis, golf, basketball, and any activity where we can keep score. Without mentioning triathlon I would be doing a disservice to my being. I just completed my second Ironman and am a member of Columbia Multisport Club.
